Meeting the energy challenge
With a quarter of the UK’s generating capacity shutting down over the next 10 years, we face a major energy challenge as old coal and nuclear power stations go offline and need to be replaced by new lower carbon forms of energy generation.
This new generation will need connecting to the national electricity network requiring a major programme of infrastructure investment totalling £22 billion over the next five years.
Consultation with local communities is an integral part of the planning process and National Grid is committed to listening to the public’s views and giving them a genuine opportunity to influence the decisions it makes. This involves answering a number of often complex questions. What impact could this work have? What will it look like? Why is it needed? How can I have my say? These are just some of the important questions that Camargue has been helping National Grid to answer.
The communications challenge: to translate a very technical subject into simple and clear messages that can be easily understood by local communities and allow feedback to be provided.
Camargue has already successfully managed several major phases of public exhibitions, including community and stakeholder engagement, for projects across the country.
